Carole MacLean - Project Director
Carole was brought up in Glasgow and developed a strong interest in Gaelic language and culture from her grandfather who came from Melvaig in Wester Ross. Over the last 15 years she has worked extensively in broadcasting with the BBC, Grampian and Border Television, and took a year out to learn Gaelic at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
DirectorsMairi Bell (Chair) Mairi, a native of Islay, worked until recently, as Tourism Manger for Business Growth at Scottish Enterprise in Glasgow. She now divides her time between Islay and Glasgow, working part time for Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park as Arts and Culture Project Manager, and running a successful family holiday accommodation business.
Simon MacQuarrie (Vice Chair) Simon is Managing Director of The Creative Cell, the Glasgow based design and advertising agency. Simon's parents are from Mull and North Uist.
Catriona Fisher Catriona, who is from Ardnamurchan, is a graduate of Glasgow University. Catriona is College Librarian and is a keen Gaelic singer.
Sean Gallagher Sean is a keen learner of Gaelic and has achieved fluency in the language. He is a project manager at Stow College and has three children in Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu. Sean's family are from Donegal and Mayo.
Kenna Kennedy Kenna, who is from Skye, is a retired Head Teacher and a well known Gaelic singer. She teaches Gaelic song on the Traditional Music BA course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and is on the Board of Directors of Pròiseact nan Ealan, the National Gaelic Arts Agency
Sheena MacLean Comunn na Gàidhlig is represented by the Area Development Manager for Central and Southern Scotland. Sheena comes from South Uist and is on the Steering Committee of Fèis Ghlaschu. She was a parent of one of the children who enrolled on the first day of Gaelic-Medium Education in Glasgow in 1985. Sheena is also a Committee member of the Glasgow Uist and Barra Association.
Angus MacLeod Angus is a partner in the corporate group of Law firm Wright, Johnston & MacKenzie LLP, specialising in intellectual property and technology law. He was brought up in Inverness in a Gaelic speaking home by parents of Hebridean extraction and in his spare moments is a keen traditional Gaelic singer.
Angus MeldrumAngus was born and brought up in Bayble, Isle of Lewis where he lived for 10 years and thereafter near Kingussie, but has spent most of his working life in Glasgow. Angus was Managing Director of Tennent Caledonian Breweries and latterly until he retired, Chairman of Belhaven Brewery Group plc.
Ishbel Murray Ishbel is a tutor on the Gaelic immersion course at Stow College, is a qualified teacher of art and has taught art courses at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Ishbel is from Lewis.
Kenneth Thomson Kenneth was a senior manager in the National Health Service until he retired in 2000. A native of Campbeltown, Kenneth is conductor of the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association. Fiona Dunn
Fiona is Gaelic Language Officer at Glasgow University and is a fluent Gaelic learner. She is a keen Gaelic singer and won the National Mod Silver Pendant in 2004 and the Oban Times Gold Medal in 2005.
Helen MacNeil Helen is Chief executive of Glasgow's Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS) Alison Cullen
Based in Glasgow, Alison is development worker for Comhaltas, the largest group involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music. Christine MorrisonChristine Morrison was brought up in Shawbost on the west side of Lewis and works as an independent television producer based in Glasgow. She sent up Corcadal Productions in 2007 which produces programmes for BBC Alba and also works as a freelance producer/director.
