Disathairne, an 8mh latha dhen Lùnastal, thàinig 13 daoine a-steach aig An Lòchran airson pàirt a ghabhail ann an seisean-ionnsachaidh eadar-ghnìomhach againn.
Thòisich sinn le bhith a’ cur an aithne a chèile, ’s a h-uile duine ag ràdh sheantansan leithid Is mise…, Tha mi à…, Tha mi a’ fuireach ann an…, amsaa. Às dèidh na h-eacarsaich sìmplidh seo, chluich sinn geama a bha stèidhichte air na bunaitean. Dh’ionnsaich sinn cuideachd an diofar (san fharsaingeachd) eadar Tha… agus ’S e…. Gheibh thu na seantansan a chleachd sinn san taisbeanadh gu h-ìosal ⬇️
An uair sin, chuir sinn an t-eòlas ùr seo gu feum aig na bùird againn, ’s gach neach a’ cur cheistean air an ath neach leithid Ciamar a tha thu?, Dè an t-ainm a th’ ort?, Cò às a tha thu?, amsaa. Rinn gach neach an dìcheall gus na ceistean sin a fhreagairt, agus an uair sin, chuir esan/ise/iadsan na ceistean air an ath neach, amsaa. Mar seo, bha an cothrom aig a h-uile duine thar 15 mionaidean ceistean fhaighneachd agus a fhreagairt.
Ghabh sinn fois cofaidh is tì mus do thill sinn airson pàirt #2. Thòisich sinn le geama beag eile a thug an tràth caithte (the past tense) a-steach – chan e “Tha mi a’ dèanamh…”, ach “Bha mi a’ dèanamh…” no dìreach “Rinn mi…” a bha seo. Tha dèan na ghnìomhair gu math cumanta sa Ghàidhlig, mar sin, ’s fhiach e na diofar thràthan ionnsachadh, mean air mhean – agus, gu dearbh, mar a thèid ceistean leithid “An do rinn thu xyz?” a fhreagairt gu ceart.
Chuir sinn crìoch air an fheasgar le eacarsaich bheag far an robh aig na h-aoighean seantansan sìmplidh (a gheibhear gu h-ìosal san taisbeanadh cuideachd) a chur bho Ghàidhlig gu Beurla.
’S math a rinn a h-uile duine, agus tha sinn a’ dèanamh fiughair ri seisean-ionnsachaidh A1/A2/B1 eile a dh’aithghearr!

On Saturday 8th August, 13 people came along to An Lòchran to take part in an interactive Gaelic learning session.
We started off by getting to know one another, with everyone saying sentences like Is mise… (My name is…), Tha mi à… (I’m from…), Tha mi a’ fuireach ann an… (I’m living in…), etc. After this simple intro exercise, we played a game that looked at the basics. We also learned the difference (broadly) between Tha… (“I am [something temporary]”) and ’S e… (“I am [something more permanent]”). You can see the sentences we used in the slideshow below ⬇️
We then put this new knowledge into practice at our tables, with each individual asking the next person questions like Ciamar a tha thu? (“How are you?”), Dè an t-ainm a th’ ort? (“What’s your name?”), Cò às a tha thu? (“Where are you from?”) etc. Everyone did their best to answer these questions, and then he/she/they asked the next person the same questions, and so on round. That way, everyone had the opportunity to ask and answer the questions in the space of 15 minutes.
We took a wee coffee and tea break before returning for part #2. We kicked off with another wee game that introduced the past tense – i.e. not “Tha mi a’ dèanamh…” (”I am doing”), but “Bha mi a’ dèanamh…” (“I was doing…”), or just “Rinn mi…” (“I did…”). The verb dèan is very common in Gaelic, so it’s worth learning the different tenses, gradually – and, of course, how to correctly answer questions like “An do rinn thu xyz?” (“Did you do xyz?”).
We brought the afternoon to a close with a wee exercise where the guests had to put simple Gaelic sentences (which you’ll also see in the slideshow below) into English.
Everyone did a good job! And we’re looking forward to another A1/A2/B1 learning session in the near future.
